1880 BRONZE ANTIQUE DIANA THE HUNTRESS VICTORIAN
Bought 20 years ago on EBay. There was a companion plaque of a mermaid.They were created by means of the repousse process that is hammering from behind thin sheet metal in this case bronze. Workmanship is incredible. French or German. Kalmar Depose Geschutzt?.
Diana the huntress finds herself in a beaucolic scene of flora and fauna. She is scantily clad, a flock of birds fly overhead. She reaches for an arrow from her quiver having made a decision to shoot a large male deer
Abrasions to patina on breast, arm, hair and top edge as shown. Rust and chip on bottom back. Some spots in sky near birds and a couple throughout. I don't know alot about bronze so there are little pits you can see but i dont know if that is part of casting or not.
You can see the depth of casting on the reverse. Two rings
17.5" by 9.5". Very heavy. 9 pounds
