Description
Bronze spear-heads, together with other types of weaponry and armour,
formed the most prized possessions
of Villanovan and Etruscan aristocratic warriors.
In death, these were included as part of the
votive offerings placed in the tomb
as a reflection of a
warrior’s rank and importance
.
This spear-head has a tubular socket for fastening to a wooden shaft.
It is decorated with hatched triangles incised around the socket and base of blade shaft, with an off-set collar of incised rope pattern at the end.

The Villanovan culture (c. 900–700 BC), regarded as the earliest phase of the Etruscan civilization, was the earliest Iron Age culture of Italy. It directly followed the Bronze Age Proto-Villanovan culture which branched off from the Urnfield culture of Central Europe
The name derives from the locality of Villanova, a fraction of the municipality of Castenaso in the Metropolitan City of Bologna where, between 1853-1855, Giovanni Gozzadini found the remains of a necropolis, bringing to light 193 tombs, of which there were 179 cremations & 14 inhumations
The Villanovans introduced iron-working to the Italian Peninsula. They practiced cremation and buried the ashes of their dead in pottery urns of distinctive double-cone shape.
AGE = QE2 era or Queen Elizabeth The 2nd (1954-2022)
