Description
This small silver basket was made in the 1930s by the well known Djokja silversmith Tom's Silver.Tom's silver started in 1890. After the Indonesian independence from the Netherlands, Tom's silver made the state presents.
Decorated with the classic Djokja Lotus and other flowers. The combination of all types of flowers in one bowl makes this a rare bowl.
Provenance: Bought at an antique shop in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
Silver grade: 800/1000
Weight: 129 grams or approx. 4.15 Troy ounces.
Length: 16 centimeter or approx. 6.3 inches.
Width: 12 centimeter or approx. 4.72 inches.
Height: 3.0 centimeter or approx. 1.18 inches excluding handle, 10.5 centimeter or approx. 4.13 inches.
Condition: The basket is in a very good condition with regular traces of careful use.
The name Djokja / Yogya silver originates from the town name of Djokjakarta, Java, Indonesia.
Between 1930 and 1970, a lot of silver was made in Kota Gede, a town next to Djokjakarta.
All Djokja silver are hand made and therefore every piece is unique.
