Eugene Lamy French Bronze Statue of Soldier Cossack/Janissary Russian/Turkish.
Fantastic bronze statue of a soldier fully armed for battle, in chain mail armor. The original is by Eugene L. Lamy of 19th century France. I assume this bronze is after Lamy and not an original casting of his. I really don’t know for sure though, for all I know it is one of his original castings. I don’t see a foundry mark but the bottom is also covered by felt and I haven’t removed the felt. The casting is very good quality, it has quite fine detail. The statue is mounted on black stone, likely marble. Total height including base is approximately 14.75”. Total weight is just over 8lbs. He has a bird tucked under his arm. I’m not sure if it’s a falcon or it’s a symbolic bird like a dove. He holds a rifle that is sling behind his back. The rifle has a slight curvature, it’s not completely straight as you would assume most rifles would be. This seems to be a casting issue not a condition issue. There are no condition issues at all that I see. This statue is in excellent condition all around and ready to display! Please examine all photos carefully prior to purchase.
