    Description

    Maitland Smith Solid Bronze Griffin....this is a local estate find....although I am familiar with Maitland Smith and recognized this mythical griffin figure, I have spent considerable time trying to understand what this is, can't find find another on the internet (hoping you know) my first impression was that this is a fireplace piece, with the handled poker looking thing...but it does not remove, or perhaps a lamp stand but there are no hollows for a cord...so I don't know, but it's cool, heavy solid bronze 10.5" to the top of griffin head...20" to top of handled rod, base 11" by 5.5"....I'm guessing someone paid about 1500 for this at Maitland Smith...WEIGHS 20 LBS
