Information from Wendell-August: to care for your Wendell August Forge giftware, rinse it in plain, warm water and gently wipe it dry with a soft, clean cloth. Each piece of bronze is lacquered to prevent the item from tarnishing.
How the pieces are made:
1. Using only a hammer, chisel and their own creative talents, our master die engravers cut each design into a 1" think steel slab.
2. During the hammering process phase, the craftsman pounds a series of random hammer marks into the metal around the design areas.
3. At the forge, each piece is "blackened" by holding it over an open fire and allowing the smoke to bake onto it.
4. Special butters, 0000 steel wool, and a gentle touch are used to remove 97% of the smoke residue from the item. Enough coloring is left to distinctively highlight the extraordinary detail of each design.
5. The craftsman carefully hammers the metal into a wooden form to give the piece its final shape.
